Everything You Need To Know About Scoring Free Water In MTL

We all know how costly bottled water can get – and it’s doubly frustrating that we need it to live. Thankfully, Montreal has many cool spots that, unbeknownst to many, offer free water. Here are BlogMTLs 7 best spots to score some free water in MTL.

1. Le Bibiotheque National

Located just outside of Berri Metro, this large building has free movies and video games, as well as non-computerized music and non-Kindle-compatible magazines. But the best free thing that this establishment offers is definitely the free water. With fountains on every floor, it’s plentiful and refreshing!

2. Eaton Center

Not to be confused with the Toronto Eaton Center, this downtown mall structure is also the only way to get to and from McGill metro from Five Guys. The free water is a little hard to get to as you will have to cross the food court and find the bathrooms, but no one bothered us when we went there.

3. Parc Lafontaine

While you may notice that most people around you are drinking beer, you, as a BlogMTL reader, know something that they don’t: Parc Lafontaine has free water! Top that, suckers! (Fun fact: le fontaine means the fountain in French! Not so surprised this place has water!)

4. Concordia Library Building 

You may know this place as a swag place to go text your friends and Snapchat dickpicks during finals, but if you find yourself thirsty, there are water fountains on the ground floor! PS: there are also water fountains inside the Hall building but overall we find the water to be of a higher quality in the library.

5. Parc Jameance 

This park on the edge of the hip Mile-End neighborhood is often overrun with bizarrely dressed musicians and baseball playing rastafari, but for those of you who prefer organic, free-range water and a more authentic water drinking experience, this is the spot.

6. McGill

None of us actually went here except for Chad and he’s not in the office right now but we’re willing to be that if Concordia has water, McGill probably has some too. Just use vigilance when sneaking about as drinking water at McGill could get you a nasty fine!

7. Telus call center break room 

This water source involves a bit more work – you’ll need to know someone who works in the Telus call center (not much of a stretch) and you’ll need their permission to use their keycard (a little harder). The hallways are quite confusing, so ask your friend to draw you a map (Google Maps doesn’t support hallways). The sink in the break room offers free water to those who can find it! Alternately you can probably hang out by the door and look at your phone until someone you don’t know comes by. Typically saying ‘I forgot my card’ will do the trick.   H20MG, free water is SO MTL!
